Murphy Academy First Class Feis - March 8th
Location: Raymond Shaw Elementary in Millbury
We can’t wait for your dancer to be a part of our 1st Murphy Academy Class Feis at Raymond Shaw Elementary School in Millbury on March 8th.

This is a great opportunity to invite your family and friends to see your dancer perform during the St. Patrick's Day Season!
A class feis is the perfect opportunity for your dancer to perform on stage while having us there to support them — whether this be feising for the first time, trying out a new step or dance, or preparing for the next major championship.
Please think of our class feis as a smaller Irish dance competition designed for beginners through championship dancers to gain performance experience in a supportive environment. Dancers will compete in their individual level and dances, while receiving feedback from an adjudicator.

Our adjudicator for our first class feis is Siobhan Dunn Watkins ADCRG. Siobhan is a world renown Irish dancing teacher and adjudicator located in Quincy, MA. She and her mother, Joan Dunn, are the owners of the Forbes School of Irish Dance. We look forward to welcoming Siobhan to our first feis!

The goal of our Class Feis is to support all dancers while keeping the focus on learning, progress, and enjoyment. This is the perfect stepping stone before your dancer participates in their first regional feis, and a perfect way to come together as a dance family for St. Patrick's Day.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a class feis?

A class feis is a smaller Irish dance competition designed for beginners through championship dancers within a school to gain performance experience in a supportive environment. Dancers will perform their solo dances in their individual levels, while receiving feedback and medal placements from an adjudicator. The placements a dancer receives at a class feis do not advance them to the next level but instead should encorage them to continue to practice for their next regional feis.
The goal of our Class Feis is to support all dancers while keeping the focus on learning, progress, and enjoyment. This is the perfect stepping stone before your dancer participates in their first regional feis, and for those that have feised come together as a dance family.

What is a regional feis?

A feis (pronounced “fesh”) is an Irish dance competition where dancers perform their solo dances on stage in front of judges.
At a feis:
-
Dancers compete in their age group and level (Beginner through Open Championship).
-
They perform specific dances (reel, light jig, slip jig, treble jig, hornpipe, etc.).
-
One or more judges score them on timing, technique, posture, presentation, and overall performance.
-
Dancers receive placements and, depending on level, may earn advancement toward the next level.
Feiseanna (plural of feis) are typically full-day events held in hotels, schools, or convention centers. They are both competitive and social — dancers support one another, families gather, and it’s a chance to gain stage experience, build confidence, and celebrate hard work.
For many dancers, a feis is not just about winning — it’s about growth, goal-setting, and performing with pride.
Our regional feis are all operated by schools that are a part of the CLRG Organization:

What do I wear to the Class Feis?

If you have already performed in a local feisanna, you will wear what you normally do. Please wear full costume — wig, dress, and makeup for dancers ages U11 and older.

For dancers that this will be their first feis, please wear your parade attire except for the sweatshirt.

What is the cost of the Class Feis?

The fee for a feis is by the dance each dancer performs. We have done this for our Class Feis to parallel how it is priced at local feises. Each dance in the "grades" (prebeginner to prizewinner) is $10/dance. Preliminary dancer entry for their dances (two rounds) is $40 total and Open dancer entry for their dances (three rounds) is $50 total.

Does my dancer have to perform at the Class Feis?

Yes, we would absolutely love for your dancer to perform. They will not only get feedback from Siobhan Dunn, our esteemed adjudicator, but this will also be a great event for our entire team. Dancers will make memories with friends and continue to prepare their dances for the upcoming year in a supportive environment.
